This is my current project. The second iteration of my platform I have included plenty of new changes in order to make it more production ready. The work that went into this project includes changes from a trapezoidal bldc into a 3 phase bldc driven by a DRV8313 chip. In order to minimize the amount of space to execute this goal, I have also started to learn and design PCB's. I started this process by refreshing on my previous courses regarding circuits, power electronics, and micro electronic systems. I decided to employ KiCad as my design tool as it is free of charge and has plenty of resources and libraries for the components that I will be using.Â
I made a simple one line network and power diagram followed by implementing this in the schematic of KiCad. After this, I referenced Digikey and JLCPcb library for part footprints and voltage/current tolerances. To simplify my work, I referenced open sourced circuit board designs and the ideal designs shown by the components data sheet to create a simple layout. I had plenty of time to look through trace design, component placement, VIAs and Pad tolerances before I could settle on a final design. This was sent to JLCPcb for production.
Getting the footprint of the PCB , I was able to start my mechanical design. In order to practice for designing a final product, I made sure that I limited myself to FDM or Injection moulding designs that I learnt from my time working at Primepack Technologies Inc. The design is currently only missing the servo arm slot in the ball chamber.
